After a 2 week honeymoon, Harrsion got to learn a little about life yesterday. Pain! In the morning we had a pediatrician appointment. He had to get poked and bleed on a card. Let me tell you how fun it is to hold a tiny baby down on the table and have him turn red screaming at you because of the pain he's feeling in his foot. I tried to avoid eye contact.
Then in the afternoon we had an appointment with an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist. On a scale from 1 to 4 (4 being the worst), Harrison was tongue-tied (technically called ankyloglossia or short lingual fraenum) at rated right at a 3. This prevented him from latching on correctly and using his tongue to feed correctly.
So despite the hour drive up there and back, the procedure only took a minute to perform. So once again, I held him down and kept him from wiggling while the doctor took a little pair of scissors and clipped the string that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth. And once again he bled, although we were told over and over again that there are no nerve endings there so it didn't hurt. And to be honest, Harrison's cry didn't change when the doctor cut him...he was just angry and didn't like being held down. Lydianne said she could feel a difference, but I don't know that it completely solved the pain during feeding. I think we're also dealing with the beginnings of a diaper rash...so I think the honeymoon is over.

Thank you for the update, I am sorry you all had to go through that! It is tough to to see them suffering!!! Hang in there, I promise it will get better!!!And before too long he will get a great big hug from his Great Aunt Kathy!!!!
Poor little guy!!! It's rally rough being parents some times...Give him lots of kisses from his grandma!! Love you all!!
That must have been so difficult to go through! Hopefully Lydianne will find some relief now. Tell her it took Blake two weeks before he learned how to nurse the right way. After that, it was a breeze. I nursed him for 9 months. Hang in there, he will get the hang of it!

Don't worry Lydianne. It gets better and easier with each baby you have. I hope having his tongue clipped helps you, I can't imagine watching someone doing that to my baby! Way to be brave, Kris!
